Exercise and How to Manage Stress
Stress is a condition that is characterized by emotional and mental strains that are always harmful. One is said not to be a good state of mind when they are stressed. Many things can cause stress. People react to the causes of stress differently. Our workplaces can be our source of stress. Among the things at a workstation that can lead to stressful situations are long working hours, working under dangerous conditions, and also being unhappy with the job. Life stress is other form of stress. The causes of life stress are divorce, getting married, loss of a job, the death of a loved one among others.
The cause of someone’s stressful situation can be themselves. One might stress themselves when they worry too much about certain things. Worrying about certain issues such as the fear of uncertainty, attitude and perceptions, unrealistic expectations, and major life changes can result in stress. It is unhealthy to be stressful. People are advised to try as much as they can to relieve themselves from stress. Stress has negative health implications. Examples are a headache, fatigue, and irritability and difficulty in sleeping. The worst can happen with some of these health implications of stress. The good news is that there are ways to manage stress.
Below are examples of tips that can assist a person to deal with stress. It is important that a stressed person should avoid caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol. Both nicotine and caffeine are stimulants. These substances affect increasing the stress levels as opposed to the belief of reducing the stress levels. Aalcohol, on the other hand, is a depressant in large quantities but not an effective way of dealing with stress. Another way of managing stress is getting enough sleep. Lack of sleep has been identified to be a cause of stress. Another tip of managing stress is the utilization of the relaxation techniques. Majority of these relaxation techniques have been tried and tested.
The other way of dealing with stress is through doing exercise. There is an increase in the stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline when someone is stressed. Exercise can therefore boost the production of these hormones. It is not a must for someone to do a vigorous physical exercise to achieve this. Brisk walking in fresh air can be very helpful. There are even better benefits of incorporating physical exercise into your daily routine.
Exercise helps in stress management following certain mechanisms. Exercise has the effect of pumping endorphins into the body. These are brain’s feel-good neurotransmitters. When someone exercises, they tend to forget about the irritations that they have had. Another way on how exercise reduces the stress levels is by improving someone’s mood. The symptoms of depression and increasing the confidence of a person are the ways that exercise assist in improving the mood of a person.
